Handicraft and Weaving has always been the way of life of Naga people and is closely associated with culture and traditions of Naga people. Tribal women of this region are the mainstay of craft activity in this belt. It is important that sustained efforts are made towards upliftment of Social and Economic standards of these Tribal People. Varying motifs, colour and patterns have symbolic meaning, closely associated with tribal people and their identity. A need is always felt that younger generation of these tribes need to preserve and grow this technique of weaving while incorporating innovative ideas and product diversification. By doing this they will meet the growing aspiration of modern market and help showcase rich culture and heritage of the Naga people. The need of undertake organized activity under economic backing from state and measures to standardize and patent the products are obvious areas of concern without which the piecemeal efforts of few enthusiastic designers won’t see the light of day. A thorough research needs to be undertaken by research enthusiasts to achieve product diversification while keeping in mind the aspect of preservation of rich cultural heritage of Nagaland.
